Paul Jones began painting at age eight (1948) in Taos, New Mexico. However, it wasn’t until 1998 that he began painting full-time. Throughout his career, Jones has relentlessly detailed the people and places of the American West.

Jones is best known for his large-scale portraits, which he creates using the pointillist technique. This method of painting uses small, distinct dots to form an image—or as he calls them, “points of light”. According to Jones, pointillism allows him to include small details that are not possible with other methods. Moreover, by layering the points in particular areas, he gains significant control over shading and highlighting.

Jones has painted personal portraits of some of the world’s most famous people including Lady Margaret Thatcher, President George W. Bush, John Denver, Jay Leno, and Kevin Costner. His work has been featured in National Geographic, Ford Times, Midwest Living, and The Artist Magazine. He was also a major contributor to the book, North American Indian Jewelry and Adornment, by Lois Sherr Dubin.
