Rose rock is instantly recognizable and, save for a few minor occurrences, unique to the State of Oklahoma. It is the result of the intergrowth of reddish barite crystals, found in a geological formation called the Garber Sandstone in central Oklahoma. In 1968, rose rock was named the official rock of Oklahoma.
